All About Retrofit Smart Switch
A retrofit smart switch solution represents a major innovation in home automation, offering an efficient way to modernize existing homes without the need for extensive rewiring or renovation. This solution provides a seamless upgrade to traditional light switches, transforming them into smart, connected devices that can be controlled remotely or through automation.
The term “retrofit” refers to the process of adding new technology or features to existing systems. In the context of home automation, a retrofit smart switch replaces or converts a traditional switch to smart switch, allowing it to perform advanced functions such as remote control, scheduling, and energy monitoring.
Retrofit switches are engineered to fits behind the existing switch board and designed to work with the existing electrical setup of a home, making them particularly appealing for homeowners who want to upgrade their systems without the hassle or cost of a full remodel.
Key Features of Retrofit Smart Switches
Retrofit smart switch solutions offer a wide range of features that make them a versatile and practical choice for modern homes. Below are some of the most significant features that contribute to their growing popularity:
1. Ease of Installation : One of the primary advantages of retrofit smart switches is their ease of installation. Because these devices are designed to work with existing wiring, there’s no need to open walls or run new wires, significantly reducing both the time and cost of installation.
2. Cost-effectiveness : The cost of upgrading a home to smart home can be prohibitively high, but with reteofit solution you can achive the same level of convenience and control for fraction of the cost. Since it can be retrifitted into an existing electrical wiring system, you don’t have to pay for new installation.
3. Energy Saving : Smart switches can contribute significantly to energy savings in a home. By offering the ability to automate and control lighting based on need, homeowners can avoid leaving lights on unnecessarily, which reduces electricity consumption. Since these switches can be controlled via an app, users can turn off lights or appliances from anywhere anytime that were accidentally left on while away from home, further promoting energy efficiency.
4. Smart Control and Automation : Once installed, retrofit smart switches offer a wide range of control options, including:
- App Control : Our retrofit switches can be controlled via a mobile app, giving users the ability to turn lights or appliances on and off from anywhere in the world. This is especially useful for people who want to check whether they left a light on after leaving the house or want to set the lights to turn on before they arrive home.
- Voice Control : DearNest’s Retrofit switches are compatible with popular voice assistants like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant. This allows users to control their lights or appliances using voice commands, offering hands-free convenience for tasks like dimming lights or switching between lighting scenes.
- Scheduling and Automation : Users can set schedules for their lights, ensuring they turn on or off at specific times of the day. This is particularly helpful for creating routines, such as having lights turn on at sunset or turn off at moring.
5. Customizable Lighting Scenes : With a retrofit smart switch, users can create custom scenes for different occasions. For instance, user can set up a “Movie Night” scene that switch off the lights, turn on AC or a “Dinner Party” scene that switch on the lights of specific areas of the home and turn on the music system. These scenes can be activated via the app, a voice command, or even scheduled to occur at certain times.
6. Enhanced Safety and Security : Retrofit smart switches can also contribute to home safety and security. For example, by setting lights to turn on and off at random intervals while away on vacation, homeowners can create the illusion that someone is home, deterring potential burglars. Additionally, the ability to control lights remotely means homeowners can illuminate dark areas before entering their home, enhancing personal safety.
7. Integration with Sensors : A key feature of smart switch solutions is the ability to integrate with motion or occupancy sensors. This allows the lights to automatically turn on when someone enters a room and turn off when the room is empty, enhancing convenience and reducing energy waste. For example, in areas like hallways or bathrooms, the lights can be set to automatically turn off after a certain period of inactivity.
What is SoloSync & DualSync Series Switches ?
SoloSync Series – Our SoloSync Series products comes with one way switching technique. In one way switching, position of switches in traditional switch board and position of switches in smart app do not synchronize. In this case, to control the appliances using smart app/remote/voice assistant, it is mandatory that switches in traditional switch board should be in switched off condition.
In certain condition, if you want to use the traditional switches to control the appliances, you can do so, but you will not be able to get the on or off status of the switches in your smart app as both are not synchronized.
DualSync Series – Our DualSync Series product comes with two way switching technique. In two-way switching, position of switches in traditional switch board and position of switches in smart app are synchronized. It means, if you switch on any appliance using smart app you can able to switch it off using traditional switch. Same way if you do switch off any appliance using traditional switch you can able to switch it on using smart app/remote/voice assistant.
“DearNest’s Retrofit Smart Switches” comes with both one way and two way switching technique.
